How to Set Up a Facebook Account
Setting up an account of Facebok only takes a few minutes. Follow these simple steps to get started.
- Go to www.facebook.com. On the home page is a form for you to fill out with your name, email address, birthdate, etc. Fill this out and Submit. An email will be sent to your email address. When it arrives, click on the link to confirm.
- A screen will come up that allows you to find friends. For now, click Skip this Step. For the following screens, you can either fill in the information or click Skip this Step.
- When you get to the screen that has the choice for setting up your profile, click the link. (Or click the word Profile on the blue bar on the top of the page.
- On the left side, under the outline of a person, click Upload a Picture. Click Browse and locate a picture on your hard drive. After you do this, click Save. If you don’t like the picture, put your cursor over your pciture. A link will appear on the upper right that says, Change Picture. Click that and choose another picture.
- Next click the link under your picture that says Edit My Profile. Fill out the various fields For your birthday, best to choose the option that says “Show only month & day.
- You can fill in as much information as you wish under the personal information. In the Contact section, have at least one way that people can contact you and be sure to add your Website, if you have one. Always include the http:// for any Web address so it becomes clickable.
- After you are finished, scroll back up and click Done Editing.
- Go to the blue bar on top of the page and click Settings/Account Settings. Click each tab and set your preferences. Under Notifications, check those options for which you want email notifications.
- Next click Settings/Privacy Settings. This section can be complicated. Setting something to Everyone, means everyone on the Internet can see the information. A useful setting is Friends of Friends.
